BJP has deliberately downgraded the maintenance and punctuality of Indian Railways so that when they eventually sell it to a private company, the public will say, "Good thing we gave it to them, maintenance and punctuality will improve now." Poor punctuality is causing a loss to the railway as well. Last month, when I traveled on the CSMT-HWH Duronto from Mumbai, the train was 12 hours late and completely empty. There were only 2 people in my coach and the other coaches had only 10% occupancy. All the passengers canceled their tickets and took flights because of the train's delay. When I booked my ticket, almost all the seats were full, but everyone canceled their tickets. This is causing a loss to Indian Railways. Indian Railways has given freight trains to private companies. They are sending their own goods in their trains and giving a timeframe to Indian Railways for delivering the goods at the destination. Due to the pressure from private companies and the lack of support from the government, Indian Railways is forced to prioritize freight trains over passenger trains. This government is just an agent for private companies/businessmen.
