What are the differences between LHB coaches and the regular ICF coaches? In February 2000, IR received a consignment of new lightweight all-metal passenger coaches from Alsthom LHB (Germany). The initial units were earmarked for the New Delhi - Amritsar Swarna Shatabdi, but later [5/01] allotted to the new New Delhi - Lucknow Swarna Shatabdi. The coaches are approximately 2.2m longer than the standard ICF-built integral coaches (two additional rows for the chair cars, one additional sleeping bay for the sleeper coaches). The AC coaches are expected to carry 78 passengers. The body is by Alsthom LHB, with a stainless steel construction, mounted on Fiat bogies with disc brakes. The chair cars are lighter about 10% lighter than the standard IR integral coaches, having a tare weight of 40.3 tonnes. LHB coaches are superior to conventional coaches and could run at the maximum speed of 160 to 200 kmph . LHB coaches are anti-telescopic and cannot turn turtle in the event of any derailment or collision . LHB coaches have more riding comforts due to improved suspension system. The LHB coaches are fitted with microprocessor controlled high capacity air conditioning system, which gives passengers better comforts during summer and winter season. Exactly and since the coaches have a speed capacity of up to 200kmph hence less travelling time . This is company name LHB is Linke-Hoffmann-Busch thnks sirji, but what is so great, means what does it do....... The company was started by the first gentleman Mr. Linke in Breslau Poland way back in late 1800. After many fusions, mergers and joint venture agreements the company now belongs to Alstom group. These LHB coaches are fireproof ones designed by Alsthom Motors of Germany. It was introduced after the fire incident in the Golden Temple Mail towards Amritsar. Linke Holfmann Bush-LHB coaches are the new type of coaches manufactured by RCF mainly to ensure more saftey-anti-derailment, speed, and accurate perfomance. These coaches are anti telescopic too. Now used only in Rajdhani, Shadabdi and Duranto, will extend to all main trains in future. LHB Coaches are available at present in sum Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duranto & Garib Rath Thanks with regd. Which Garib Rath has LHB coaches? @saragada ramesh: Re# 25466-2 LHB Coaches mean the coaches made of steel by RCF, Kapurthala previously built and imported from Linke-Hoffman-Bosch. These coaches have large windows, are fire-proof, sound resistant and jerk free. They are being used in trains like HWH RAJ EXP, SDAH-NDLS DURONTO EXP and ASR-NDLS SHATABDI EXP. (I think it is a collaboration between RCF Kapurthala India & Alstom LHB) "LHB" is just the name of the company that designed the new style coaches - it does not mean anything else.
