Erode District Congress Committee has urged the Southern Railway to reconsider its decision of close the railway schools and wanted the schools to continue functioning for the benefit of the students.
E.P. Ravi, district president, in a letter to the General Manager of Southern Railway, said that of the nine railway schools that the administration has proposed to close, eight were located in Tamil Nadu, while only one school was functioning at Palakkad. Over 2,000 students are pursuing various classes in these schools in which 200 teaching staff and 50 non-teaching staff are employed. The railway school functioning in Erode was started in 1916 and had served the students community for 102 years.

more... letter said that the Railway Board’s decision to stop enrolment of students from the coming academic year is a great shock to the railway employees and their families, who were demanding the functioning of schools. Also, the letter said that other railway schools in the country continue to function as usual. Likewise, Makkal G. Rajan, district president, Erode District Congress Committee (South), urged the Railways to run the schools for the benefit of the students.
