CHENNAI: Southern Railway has suggested shifting two trains to
and diverting two trains via Perambur to decongest . The suggestions have been made for inclusion in the new time-table being prepared. When scheduled train services begin,
and will be operated from Tambaram, while KSR Bengaluru-Danapur Express and Madurai-Chandigarh Express will go via Perambur. People travelling to Central may have to alight at Perambur and take suburban trains into the heart of the city.

Sources said these are among the changes suggested based on meetings held to tweak services to accommodate more from Central railway station. The move will help decongest the station which is being renovated.
“Railways has started to look at Tambaram as the origin station for trains as it is being developed as a terminal after Central and Egmore. Moving out four trains will ease the pressure on Central,” said an official.
The station is being renovated, with all platforms being spruced up as part of a plan to use them for 22-coach expresses with LHB coaches.
There is scope to expand the station and add more lines for the main station and the Moore Market Complex suburban station as an old road bridge crossing the tracks was demolished as it was a bottleneck for expansion of the railway yard and Central railway station. “Plans to straighten lines and add more lines will be taken up gradually as a new bridge will be built.”
K Baskar, a former member of divisional rail users’ consultative committee (DRUCC), said, “There will be patronage if some trains can depart from Tiruvallur instead of Central. Many Shramik Specials were operated from Tiruvallur.”
The zone has also suggested changing days of operation of five trains. Among them, Egmore-Sengottai
is proposed to be operated on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, while Tambaram-Nagercoil Express could be operated on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays
