A new Pune-Hubballi service has recently been launched. However, the existing Bengaluru-Dharwad route doesn't have stops at Arsikere, Birur, or Chikjajur, making it inaccessible to Chikkamagaluru district. Despite being a crucial hub for trade and tourism, Shivamogga lacks Vande Bharat connectivity. It's well-connected to Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Davanagere, and North Kannada district, and is known for its agricultural produce like areca nut and its tourist attractions such as Shivamogga city, Jog Falls in Sagar, Agumbe in Thirthahalli, Kodachadri in Hosanagara taluk, Balligavi in Shikaripura taluk, and the Bhadra Reservoir in Bhadravati taluk. With a railway line extending from Shivamogga to Talaguppa in Sagar taluk and connections to Chennai and Mysuru, the demand for Vande Bharat services in the region is growing stronger. Local residents emphasize the need for this service, especially considering the shorter distance between Shivamogga and Bengaluru, which is less than 300 km. Despite the absence of a definitive decision, MP B.Y. Raghavendra remains optimistic about the possibility of launching a Vande Bharat service in the future. Meanwhile, officials are exploring the feasibility of a Vande Bharat route from Shivamogga to Sagar.
