The renovation, costing ₹700 crore, includes a baggage screening system on both sides of the station, costing ₹3 crore each. Passengers will need to arrive early to complete the security check, as they will be required to proceed through a concourse and waiting hall before boarding. Announcements will be made 15 minutes before train arrival, and only then will passengers be allowed onto the platforms. The new security measures will prevent passengers from rushing to the platforms just before departure and also deter beggars and vagabonds from entering the station. The South Central Railway (SCR) is currently redeveloping three stations as world-class, including Tirupati and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh and Secunderabad in Telangana.
