Pgt- Poy crs inspection is slated for sept 8, once the line is opened it will be the shortest route to Madurai from central kerala. passenger associations are demanding for new trains between Ernakulam-Rameswaram, Ernakulam-Thoothukudi, Quilon-Velankanni and Manglore -Madurai through the new line. New services will be of great help for students from kerala , workers from tamilnadu and large number of devotees visiting holy places in both states.Now there are 9 daily buses from kochi to madurai, which charge around 800 rupees for a sleeper journey. plenty of omni buses operates from different parts of kerala to velankanni every weekend. apart from madurai, new line provides easy connectivity to palani,rameswaram, velankanni, nagore and trichi.
