Yog Nagari Rishikesh gonna have more trains in the future, no doubt, once the line to Karnaprayag is done. I ain't against making stations and adding trains on that route. But it doesn't mean that DDN is any less worthy of long distance rail connections. 1. It's just that they should have introduced new trains or extended the ones terminating at HW or changed RKSH terminating trains to YNRK, instead of taking away DDN terminating trains. 2. As the capital city with a big population, DDN needs long distance rail connections. Plus, the distance between DDN and YNRK ain't a "short and smooth drive". 3. Ignoring a station that was opened in 1899 that's a gateway to devbhoomi - headquarters to important state administrative and army establishments - and completely shifting focus to the new line ain't a good idea.
