There is no focus or planning to develop Dehradun station. Whatever plan we hear are on paper and nothing on ground. Even for Harrawala development not even an inch of work visible. Everything is being shifted to YNRK. With a much faster Delhi Dehradun expressway soon getting ready even Shatabdi / JS / VB will lose their patronage.

You are absolutely correct. They closed the station for 3 months in 2019 in the name of development and capacity expansion. Just after reopening it they shifted 13010, 22660 to YNRK and discontinued 12688 service. What they did in redevelopment remains a secret!

Redevelopment work helped in increasing the load of coaches from 12 to 15 LHB and 18ICF.Many PF and tracks were in very bad shape all got replace.Washing lines were renovated and relocated.Some PF that were no less than haunted house have been converted into new eg.4&5. Earlier except 10-12 coaches all trains used to have slip system and coaches would get detached at Haridwar.Now its completely history.

The only reason of shifting is that no more space is available to expand as in forward direction there is road and in backwards space

Kalka suffered the same problem which lead to loss of many trains after Covid.Netaji Express (Kalka Mail) will soon short terminate at Chandigarh

Agreed to every point but the fact remains that post this redevelopment Dehradun has lost connectivity to all Southern states + Mumbai (only train was 19019/19020) & also the iconic Doon express. YNRK being almost 40 km from DDN hardly serves as a satellite station for the city.

By the way this train is being massively slowed down. Dep from INDB / LMNR will be 3.30 pm & arrival at NZM at 9.25. From NZM it will depart at 9.35 to reach YNRK around 6.20 pm which is almost 9 hours for 300 km distance. Why IR is keen on running a slow passenger train cannot be understood.

1st run of 14309 Laxmibai Nagar (Indore)-Yog Nagri Rishikesh Ujjaini Express which used to Run as Laxmibai Nagar - Dehradun Express with offlink 30690 Roypuram HOG WAP-7 in lead from now onwards both 14309/10 Ujjaini Express and 14317/18 Indore-Dehradun Express will run as 14309/10 Laxmibai Nagar-Yog Nagri Rishikesh Ujjaini Express and 14317/18 Laxmibai Nagar -Yog Nagri Rishikesh Express..... and Time Table has also been changed

Also there would be more trains to Yog Nagari Rishikesh as it is a part of the larger Chardham rail project. So it makes sense that they developed YNRK instead of DDN first. Once Rishikesh Karnprayag section opens in 2026 or so DDN will be reduced to a branch line and most trains would be going to YNRK

YNRK has empty / near zero patronage and mostly trains get filled from HW. However logic of shifting trains left and right from a state capital city is puzzling & seems like IR has conveniently ignored DDN. As a child in 90s we had more trains with better connectivity. Post "redevelopment" of station people of Doon have been fooled by reduction of trains.
Plus DDN has no connection to Southern & Western India. It could be one of the only capitals having no train to Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad!

Yog Nagari Rishikesh will get more trains in future , no doubt, once the line to karnaprayag is completed. I'm not against development of stations and providing trains on that route.
But it does not make DDN any less contender for long distance rail connectivity.

2. As a capital city with a substantial population, DDN requires long distance rail connectivity.
Plus , distance between DDN and YNRK is not a "short and smooth drive" .

3. Ignoring a station opened in 1899 providing a gateway to devbhoomi - headquarter to important state administrative and army establishments , and "completely" shift focus on the new line is not a good idea . A smart and balanced approach is needed .

4. During my stay in doon , it used to be so difficult to get a confirm ticket to NDLS in Nanda Devi and to JP In uttaranchal express . No wonder many times we preferred road over rail .
