Joint meeting with Forest Deptt is being conducted quarterly (last meeting held on 24th June 2019).
b. Presence of a forest guard in Railway Divisional control office in the evening shift to share information on elephant movement and imposition of speed restriction if required.
c. WhatsApp group with Forest Officials for real time information sharing of elephant movement.
d. Regular sensitization of LP/ALP, Guard & SM along with Forest officials.
e. Probable corridors for elephant crossing identified jointly.
f. PSR of 25/30/50 kmph imposed in different locations of BG-III (Alipurduar-New Mal-Siliguri) Section.
g. Signage boards provided at all identified elephant corridors to pre-warn the loco pilots.
h. Construction of ramps, passes, Girder Bridge and Rail Fencing as deposit work of Forest Department, at vulnerable locations.
i. 8 ramps in Chalsa- Nagrakata section between Km 66/2 to 68/4.
ii. 4 ramps in Madarihat- Hasimara section between Km 128/8 to 130/2.
iii. 1 Girder Bridge in Gulma- Sivok section at Km 24/6-7.
iv. Rail Fencing in Gulma- Sivok section at Km 24/4-5, 25/9 to 26/0, 26/0-1 and 26/2-3.
i. Regular cleaning of vegetation 30 mtrs either side of the track for better visibility of elephant movement in the vicinity of track.
j. Regular counseling to the Pantry Car staff for not throwing waste food materials in BG-III section.
k. Regular announcement through PA system in the stations of BG-III (Alipurduar-New Mal-Siliguri) Section for not throwing eatables besides the track.
l. Honey Bee Sound System has been provided at 10 LC Gates in BG-III section to prevent elephants roaming near the railway track.
2. Elephants Saved: Over last 4 years, since April 16 there have been several instances of Loco Pilots sighting elephants on/crossing the track, wherein loco pilot has been able to control the speed of the train and stop the train short of elephants and thereby saving the elephants. The total nos. of elephants sighted and thus saved are 673.
We will make all-out efforts to prevent such incidences from occurring.
