Despite the train time is very much ideal for Surat people, the occupancy level is abysmally low. Just replace this train by Jan Shatabdi type and provide both ACCC / II class compartments only. Will then be a big, big success. Also the pressure on Flying Ranee and other passing fast trains at Surat would ease. However stop at Borivali / Andheri is must for the success.

Bandra-Surat Shatabdi spl (0985) today appears to have departed Bandra (BDTS) with AC Chair Car - available seats 564 and AC 1st Class - available seats 31 nos. .. Is not this mind blowing numbers ?
Train occupancy is abysmally low. The timings are also odd for this fast shatabdi leaving Bandra at 10.30 hrs and reaching 14.05 hrs ( 3.35 hrs travel time).
Neither the timing preferable to businessman nor to one day trip passengers. Also one has to face traffic congestions to reach all

the way to Bandra to catch this train as the train does not stop at Andheri /Borivali. Same way Surat - Vasai Rd Shatabdi timing @ 15.00 d at Surat and Vasai Rd Shatabdi timing @ 18.35 d at Vasai Rd for Surat is very very much odd. Early morning and late night fast trains are the favourites for the passengers on this route. Let us now wait to hear more on these trains from WR division.

The train is meant for Surat ppl to travel in the morning and return in the evening. Mumbai ppl should use Ahmedabad Shatabdi.
.
The train terminates at Bandra on its 1st trip and Vasai on its 2nd trip due to lack of time. If it was to go to Mumbai Central on both its trips, it cannot complete 2 trips in a day.

It may not be halting at Borivali in the 1st trip due to megablock at Borivali.

This train seems to have departed with ACCC - 557 available seats out of total 608 seats and AC1st Class - 33 available seats out of total 33 seats)
I agree with the response that the train is meant for Surat people.
However the response for morning Mumbai Bound Shatabdi spl is also poor and very low occupancy appears.

from Flying Ranee, number of other fast trains are also available with timing wise hardly any difference say more time of 30 to 45 minutes. However with a stop at Borivali, Andheri & Dadar, the train serves the passenger utility of reaching faster to their ulitmate destination. Here apart from high fare, one has to spend extra time and extra money either for Taxi, Auto or Local train. Also the conveyance conditions at Bandra Rly Station is not satisfactory and since the Rly station is on the far side of the East, one has to take a long walk to catch a local train after alighting from Shatabdi spl at BDTS. 3

WR would definitely rethink on the regularisation of this train after the experimental period is over. And for that matter, they are requested to consider following factors :- a) Replace this Shatabdi train by Jan Shatabdi type train b) Introduction of Lean time fare structure c)
Introduce paid catering service as against compulsory catering d) provide stop at Andheri / Borivali e) Extend Surat -Vasai Rd-Surat Shatabdi spl to Borivali. Thanks in advance.

The today's 30th Dec 2009 >> position of departed / departing spl shatabdis suggest following :-
0985 dn Bandra -Surat Shatabdi spl - departed 10.30 am with availability of AC CC - 678 seats and AC 1st Class -34 seats.
0987 dn Vasai Rd -Surat Shatabdi spl - departing 18.35 hrs on 30.12.2009 with availability of AC CC - 603 seats and AC 1st Class -33 seats.

up Surat-Vasai Rd Shatabdi spl - departed 15.00 hrs on 30.12.2009 with availability of AC CC - 558 seats and AC 1st Class -33 seats.
These spl shatabdis as expected are almost running empty. WR officials are requested to look into this matter of high fare structure and remedy it instead of just putting a curtain of closure on such trains. The train may be converted into Jan Shatabdi type for its heavy success.
The alternative is to cut down the fare to just around Rs. 250/- (just to match it with Mum-Ahd duronto) and the To & Fro trip total collection towards fare would be Rs. 490/-. The total distance for duronto is 491 kms ) and for To-Fro trip for Bandra-Surat-Bandra would be 504 kms.
Fare from Vasai Rd - Surat - Vasai Road covering to & Fro distance is 430 kms (215 kms in each direction) and fare to become fare and reasonable should be around Rs. 225/-.
It is always better to have high occupancy level instead of running the trains empty and incur loss. Low fare would find flavour of the commuting public and will lead to successful regular train services after the experimetnal period is over.

The fares for these shatabdi type trains to Surat from Bandra / Vasai Rd are very very high. There is distortion in fare structure within these train also.
The fare from Vasai Rd to Surat is 370/- as against fare of Rs. 410/- from Virar to Surat in this spl train starting from Bandra.
Look at this also :-
Virar to

Surat (in Bandra-Surat Shatabdi) >> Rs. 410/-
Virar to Surat (in Vasai Rd -Surat Shatabdi) >> Rs. 365/-
Vasai Rd to Surat (in Vasai Rd - Surat Shatabdi) >> Rs. 370/-
Who will spend such exhorbitant amount ? Are there any food / snakcs facilities provided in the train like in Shatabdi .
From all counts, the fare structure would go against the favorable response of the train and in this one month experimetal period only the Rly would incur revenue loss for low occupancy and would eventually be closed after one month period and seems that they will not be regularised at all.
These short distance trains would be converted into Jan Shatabdis so more passengers can take lower fare benefit for the purpose of travel.
WR ought to have fixed fares at least in comparison to Shatabdi train fare structure and also exclude cost of all services which are provided in Shatabdis and would not be provided to that extent in these trains.
Only emergency passengers would take this train and not the public at large.

I think this fare difference may be due to the fact that in Bandra-Surat Shatabdi, they may be serving both snacks and lunch while in Vasai-Surat Shatabdi only dinner may be served. This is only an assumption, not sure of it.

Yes this is the right answer. The fare difference is due to the food served during the journey. Dont make it a issue.
you can check this for 2005 NDLS KLK Shatabdi Exp (Fare is 450 for CC)
but for 2006 KLK NDLS Shatabdi Exp ( Fare is 465 for CC )

Here you can see the diff while the trains are running on same route, earlier Me, Mr Hetul & Mr Murli Discussed on this issue. Actually Mr Hetul Booked a ticket for one passenger for 2005 & 2006 and he noticed the difference. He asked me and I asked the answer Mr Murli then we decided to mail the matter to IRCTC and we get the answer mail from irctc that this difference is due to the food cost served in trains. In night train you will get the dinner also and it costs higher.
I think now the whole picture is clear to every one.
further discussion welcome on the issue.
Regards :)

May be the food / lunch / dinner could be the only reason.
But look at this anomaly :-
Surat – Bandra shatabdi spl 252 kms 6.00 d 9.40 a 3.40 hrs journey @ 71 kmph Fare Rs. 465/- (timing wise no lunch / dinner )
Bandra
...
– Surat shatabdi spl 252 kms 10.30 d 14.05 a 3.35 hrs journey @ 71 kmph Fare 465/- (assuming with Snacks & dinner)
Surat – Vasai Rd 215 kms shatabdi spl 15.00 d 18.00 a 3 hrs @ 73 kmph Fare 370/- (timing wise no lunch / dinner)
Vasai Rd – Surat 215 kms shatabdi spl 18.35 d 21.15 a 2.40 hrs @ 82 kmph Fare 370/- (assuming with snacks & dinner)
Borivali – Surat in Ahd shatabdi 6.59 d 9.40 a 2.41 min @ 87 kmph Rs. 405/- (only snacks - no lunch)
Surat-Borivali in Ahd Shatabdi 18.00 d 20.52 a 2.52 min @ 82/- kms Rs. 435/- (only dinner)
To and from timings are different, however fare remains same here for these trains.
The issue is not being made out but the facts are being blogged and debated. The fare set up information ought to be made at suitable places by the WR. Else, the people just wonder.

As per my analysis in Surat – Bandra shatabdi spl 252 kms 6.00 d 9.40 a 3.40 hrs journey @ 71 kmph Fare Rs. 465/- snacks will be served
in Bandra – Surat shatabdi spl 252 kms 10.30 d 14.05 a 3.35 hrs journey @ 71 kmph Fare 465/- snacks and lunch will be served
in Surat – Vasai Rd 215 kms shatabdi spl 15.00 d 18.00 a 3 hrs @ 73 kmph Fare 370/- (not sure but I think lunch will be served)

One more thing food cost is decided by IRCTC not Indian Railway. So what is the calculation behind it I dont know.
But I gave you the answer based on reply given by IRCTC that difference in fare is due to cost of food served in particular train.
