In between SC and YPR, this train is literally a walk in train. When you book it on say a Wednesday evening, you would get a W/L in almost all the classes. However, come Thursday noon, all of the W/L would disappear, and vacancies would be available under current booking. I traveled on 14th October, and my observations are from this trip.
You could buy a general M/exp ticket from SC to any of the commercial halts that this train has, towards YPR, and you can get a berth on the train in a class of your choice(2A/3A/SL). Even the general compartments are reasonably empty.

My observations are only for the part between SC and CTA. At Manthralayam road, you can get tea/coffee. At GTL, where the train halts for around 20 minutes, you can get Samosa, Masala wada, Bread Omelette, Idli Vada. You can even walk into the Veg refreshment room, and have hot breakfast, as the train halts for ample time. MRP written on the water bottles is Rs 15/-, howver the guy will demand Rs 20/- Avoid paying him Rs 5/- extra, and if he insists, report him to the station authorities, or tweet @RailminIndia, @DRMGTL, quoting your PNR number.
Post GTL, at Bellary, you will get some food stuff. After that, the landscape gets pretty dreary. At Molakamalamuru, you can get some puffed

rice and coffee and masala wada. Lunch orders are taken, and food gets loaded at Chitradurga.

Only Train connecting Tatanagar to all IISc campuses in Karnataka at Bangalore & Challakere. The train has a scheduled halt for convenience to travel between Tatanagar and the upcoming IISc campus at Challakere, Chitradurga Dist. Karnataka which is 17 kms away from Challakere station and can be reached by local Auto Rickshaw transport. Then proceeds futher for another 340 kms to its final distnation Yeswantapur which is the nearest major Rail head to IISc Bangalore campus.
