Me along with couple of friends ( all guys) are travelling on this train next tuesday from Coimbatore to Metupalayam. We do not have any reservations. Do u think the train's general coach will be crowded?

Ernakulam to CBE is a journey of 203 kms. So no break journey is allowed. But thro tkt from Ernakulam to Mettupalaiyam will entitle them to board connecting train in this case and will not be treated as break journey.
I am not too sure of this but it may be because there may not be any separate quota for CBE to Mettupalaiyam. What you have seen may have been part of the overall combined quota from Chennai and other intermediate stations to CBE /Mettupalaiyam. My presumption is that because of the short duration of the journey and that too in the morning hours, no separate quota may be available.
So you still say that the train would be almost empty from CBE to MTP right. Its a short journey, we are okay to travel standing as well but we dont wanna see a situation where we are able to board the train at all due to crowd as seen normally in the UR coaches!!
WL 194/WL 162 is the general WL in this train. If you check the status from Chennai to Mettupalaiyam or Chennai to Coimbatore, it will show same status.
Sometimes the railway rules are outside my understanding.. While u guys are here, may i ask if i can buy a over the counter tickets for a Jan Shatabdi Exp from Ernakulam to Alleppy? Again its a small journey and dont wanna book over the internet as our train from bangalore reaches just 30 mins before the JS leaves??
