High speed engine for Duranto Express
The following news report was published in the esteemed English Daily "The Hindu" on Oct 20,2012
Reporter: Mr V.S. PALANIAPPAN
Place:COIMBATORE
Date:October 20, 2012
The WAP 7 locomotive of the Southern Railway built by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, West Bengal, made its maiden journey from Chennai to Coimbatore and back hauling the coaches of the non-stop Duranto Express.
It has a horse power of 6,000 and can run at a maximum speed of 160 kmph. But the railways have restricted its speed at 130 kmph.
The drive was comfortable with a fast pick-up compared to the WAP 4 locomotives used by us, said V.K. Ayyappan, Loco Pilot who was in the cabin of the Duranto Express along with Assistant Loco Pilot Ahikesh Kumar. The loco was decked up and was seen off from Coimbatore Junction on its return journey by Divisional Railway Manager Sujatha Jayaraj.
The engine is equipped with software assisted trouble shooting mechanism, making the job much easier for the loco pilot.
The other railway zones are already using the engine. Southern Railway has plans to introduce more WAP 7 locomotives.
Southern Railway is already operating some of its trains in the Chennai Central-Bangalore sector with WAP - 7 engines made at Lallaguda Workshop.
Another feature of this engine is that it eliminates the need to have a separate power generation car for air-conditioning the coaches.
These trains have Head on Generation (HOG) by which the electric loco transfers its power from its pantograph to the coaches As of Now, Indian Railways, approximately has nearly 120 WAP locos.

Looks like its to get popularity. This person keeps asking members to comment on his posts and even if no one comments, he continues to invite comments. Not sure when this sort of blogging is going to end. Although I agree to some extent the "info" that he has been posting is "crucial"(in his language), I'm now thinking if the gentleman will be picking up posts from 2001, 1990 and posting them here. Irony is, after inviting wrath from members for using around 10 fake IDs, he volunteered to quit IRI.
