Recently asked me question related to booking of unreserved ticket (for minors/children). I realised I can't find a way to book ticket for a child (together with, let's say, her parents) on irctc site where parent don't want to take reservation for the child. For instance, if child is just 6 yr old and parent decide, she can share berth with her mother, they still have to buy reservation for child if trying to book online. Is my observation true? Or are we supposed to buy such tickets from station itself??
If child is 6 year old then half ticket is cumpolsory for him in any type of case.
As per rules, once the child completes 5 years, a journey ticket should be bought, irrespective of whether the child uses the allotted berth or not. You can book tickets for child, as you do for adults, through IRCTC too.
I get the fact that ticket is required for a child older than 5. My question is can you buy such unreserved ticket online for say AC Sleeper or AC3 coach. If I buy online, I would be buying a reserved ticket - even for a kid!!
Strictly if you buy an unreserved ticket for a child from counter, the child cannot travel with you in the reserved compartment of any class. There is no question of your adjusting
No, you can not buy unreserved journey tickets through IRCTC.
