Today when ticket booking for Jan26 opened there were only 186 tickets available in this train(checked before 8am). Usually there are 550+ tickets available. I tried different combinations of stations but still only 186 were there.
Observed the same for other trains as well.
What could be the reason behind this?

I dont have idea... if before ERS has lot of seats, then it might be a change.
Reason: What i feel is extra income. No of ppl from ERS and other place in this quota is more and number of seats are less, which means, people will have to take ttk from cherthala, evnthough they will be boarding at ERS. Meaning, extra income for railway. This is just my thought.

But not everyone would know about change of boarding point. Many ppl would book a waitlisted ticket from ERS itself. The reason could be that majority of bookings might have been from stations before ERS and hence end to end quota would have been limited to those stations.
If you are booking from PRS, usually they will tell about this. But if you are booking through IRCTC, and you are not aware, you will end up in WL.
Not this train, there are many other trains having the same startegy.
