A REFRESHER ON WAITING LISTS. THE EXPLANATION OF A LAYMAN BY A LAYMAN for LAYMEN
> GNWL (GENERAL WAITING LIST) tickets are issued when the journey commences at the originating station or stations close to the originating station and ends at the terminating station or close to the terminating station. This is the most common category of WL and has the highest chance of confirmation
> RLWL (Remote Location Waiting List) tickets are issued for intermediate stations between the originating and terminating stations because usually these are important cities or towns on that

route. This waiting list has a separate priority and confirmation will depend on the cancellations of a destination confirmed ticket. Remote location stations prepare their own chart 2-3 hours before the actual departure of the train. Chances of confirmation of RLWL tickets are less.
> PQWL (Pooled Quota Waiting List) is a common pool shared by several small stations en route. These tickets are generally issued for journeys from the originating station to a station short of the terminating station OR between two intermediate stations.
> RLGN (Remote Location General Waiting List) is issued when a user books a ticket under the RLWL. After booking RLWL gets renamed as RLGN.
> RSWL (Roadside Station Waiting List tickets are allotted when berths/seats are booked by the originating station for journeys up to the roadside stations irrespective of distance restrictions. Chances of confirmation are rather remote.
>RQWL(Request Quota Waiting List) If a ticket is to be booked from one intermediate station to another intermediate station and it is not covered by general/remote/pooled quota, the request for the ticket goes into RQWL where chances of confirmation are least.
PS. I found this in a Whatsap post and thought it could form the basis for a healthy debate and discussion. The explanation is open to correction and elaboration by our WL experts in IRI like Dipyaman Basu, Pramodh Kommattil and many others of their ilk. All are welcome to contribute and participate.

Agreed, Dipyaman. The descriptions are sketchy and ambiguous. That is why I am requesting knowledgeable guys like you and many others at IRI to refine this explanation and add value with your own inputs.
