I am back from Dudhsagar falls. I visited the falls on 7th july.
Mid july would be ideal to visit. This year though, the rainfall was scanty and the water at the falls were pretty less as compared to last year. 12779 halts at Dudhsagar station but I wouldn't recommend you to board it from here. Only Amaravati Express and 12779 Goa express halt at DDs while going towards Londa.
the blog is excellent guide for travellers to enjoy the mother nature. thank you sir
All Trains including Amaravati stop at all stations(Caranzol,Dudhsagar and Sonalium) while descending the ghats for brake test, Dudhsagar falls is about 700-900 mts from DDS station(Or just a tunnel away if you look at it). However as other members suggested, elderly people might find it difficult to get down the train and its not worth the risk IMO.
.
While going uphill trains dont need to stop at either of the three stations, atleast VSG-YPR Exp didnt. But as Mr.Vivek says and heard often, it does seem like Goa Exp and Amaravathi UP...
