Normally, when locos are coupled to a rake, only the mechanical coupling ( CBC or screw type) and the brake pipes are connected. In case of HOG locos, an IV cable ( Intra-vehicular cable), which transfers power from the HOG system to the rake, is also connected between the loco and the rake. That's why, for HOG locos, they are called 'Hotel load couplers', as these couplers also contain cables for powering the Hotel load ( powering the rake).
One thing to note is that when locos are connected in MU operation, only the slave loco will power the hotel load, while the HOG in the master locomotive is switched off and is always not connected to...

Very Useful Info.
Just a query:
So Far we have seen that Hotel Load system is installed near One Cab of the Loco either Front Cab or rear cab of all HOG WAP-7 now my query is
Is the "Hotel Load Switch" is there in both the Cab of the HOG WAP-7 or ONLY the Cab near which it is installed?

The sockets where the IV cables are connected to transfer power from the locomotive are present on both ends of the locomotive, not just one side. Both ends of the loco have power sockets with provision to connect to the rake. The switch for the Hotel load is also present in both the cabs. This switch is present in the non-HOG locos as well, but is inactive, and does not serve any purpose. Note that this switch is present in all the classes WAP5/7 and G9, irrespective of whether the loco is HOG enabled or not. This is because these locos originally came with the provision to provide HOG power. So , they had the entire circuit to provide HOG power ready except the Hotel load converter. In the original locos the switch was provided so that IR can easily upgrade the locos to handle HOG without any redesign.
Wow... I just played the audio clip on IRI for the 1st time right now. As usual, the WAP-7 Horn was ear-tearing and the photos are bright red and white (a change from the usual blue and white colors in our City)... :-D
