would it have been more convenient if this train was routed via VSG-MAO-LD-MRJ-PUNE-BSL-ET...? another option for Goan passengers to reach Pune, and it will reach Pune at around 7-8 a.m., and likewise on the return leg, depart from Pune at 8-9 p.m.? Also, no worry of Konkan routes' single line and unnecessary congestion can be avoided.. Of course don't want to undermine the importance of this train for Konkan railway travellers... I just had this alternate thought, since Goa has only a daily Goa express to Pune, which reaches at 3.30-4 a.m., apart from Ernakulam-Pune express... moreover, since it is housed in SWR shed, it may as well run a bit on the SWR stretch.. however, convenience to the public is most important.. my thoughts may be narrow.. suggestions most welcome :)
it is far better (and takes much lesser time) to use this train, get off at Panvel and catch a bus to Pune than going via braganza ghats and the ultra slow LD-MRJ-PUNE section.
using the suggested route adds the problem of ghat section to a line which is anyways single+has far more variations in gradients.
not to mention giving SWR another "operational constraints" cards to play with.

I agree with your point that this train should run via KR only but Goa express is much better train for Pune than this crawler SF. Goa takes around 13 hours between VSG to Pune. This one takes more than 11 hours to reach PNVL and Panvel to Pune is 116 km by road so total journey time will definitely be much higher than Goa express and inconvenient too.
never understood why this train is so slow between CHI-PNVL. Matsyagandha does the same route in 90 minutes lesser and still covers up its delay. while i understand that trains have dollops of slack added to them while crossing over to new zone this is too much.
This train has slack in each and every section even overtaken by M/E trains. Should be degraded to M/E category.
