Boat ride is also available in the river Cauvery where you can go close to Marsh Crocodiles. It was a thrilling experience. We spotted at least 7 or 8 crocodiles and they were basking on the rocks that came out in the middle of the river. This places is more close to Srirangapattan but very less trains stop here so better to hire a car from Mysuru and visit this place.
Even, there are plenty of city buses going to Srirangapatna from Mysore (Bus No:307, I think) which passes through Ranganatittu entrance and the bird sanctuary is about 800 meters from this spot. Whenever I go to Mysore as a tourist, I always visit this place. Very nice place. I buy a daily pass for Rs.50/- and cover almost all places like Chamundi Hills, Zoo, KRS, Ranganatittu, Srirangapatna and Mysore palace.
