In IR terms, the name ' junction' is usually given to the station which controls the signals and switches for the bifurcation point.
For example, you can see that many suburban stations, despite having some lines branching off, do not have the ' junction ' tag in their names. This is because all the signaling and points are controlled from a central hub in major cities. For example, in Chennai, the entire suburban route's signaling is controlled from Basin bridge junction. For this reason, stations like Royapuram, Vyasarpady etc, are not called junctions.
