Earlier the station name was Kankanadi & code was KNKD. Later the name of station was changed to Mangaluru Junction & correspondingly the code got changed to MAJN. Believe the name of the area where station is located is Kankanadi; but Railways might have decided to go for the popular name Mangaluru, considering convenience of passengers coming from outside.
