In order to fulfil the ambitious project “Mission Electrification” of Indian Railways successful, N F Railway has been in full swing to electrify all its routes. Earlier in 3rd November 2016 Indian Railways had launched Mission Electrification of 24,400 route kilometre (rkm) of BG network in next five years. This is also a part of India’s goal of cutting carbon emission by 33-35% by 2030, “Mission Electrification- an initiative to reduce dependence on diesel by electrifying nearly 100% of railway tracks in the next 5years.

country since 10.04.2017 while Katihar-Kumedpur-Old Maldah – Singhabad section has also been commissioned on 08.01.2018 to run the trains over that section. The works for the section Kumedpur - Barsoi – Kishanganj -New Jalapaiguri - Raninagar(Jalpaiguri) is also in advance stage and due to be completed within March-2019.
Most importantly targeted time to run electric service train upto Guwahati has been fixed within 2020.In this connection the railway electrification works from Raninagar (Jalpaiguri) - New Bongaigaon - Guwahati section has also been sanctioned and after finalisation of tenders now works has been going on expediously. Within this the work is divided into two packages, ie package-1covering from Raninagar(Jalpaiguri)-New Bongaigaon(excl) of 221 RKM(Route Kilo metre)/412 TKM(Track Kilo metre) while package-2 from New Bongaigaon-Guwahati vis Rangia of 161 RKM / 275 TKM.
The required electricity will be drawn at 7(seven) Traction sub-stations viz; New Mainaguri, Pundibari, Gosaigaon Hat, New Bongaigaon, Sarbhog, Nalbari and Kamakhya. Already work of drawing transmission lines to these sub stations have also been awarded for New Mainaguri, Pundibari, Gosaigaon Hat, Nalbari and work in progress.
At some places first foundation works for OHE (over head equipments) masts have been started and also sub-station works have been started to facilitate for 25 KV electric supply to overhead lines. Sections will be commissioned in a phased manner to electrify upto Guwahati and beyond Guwahati upto Dibrugarh.
In addition to the above the “Mission Electrification” for all other left over sections of N F railway viz (i) Guwahati – Lumding – Dimapur - New Tinsukia - Dibrugarh (ii) Lumding –Badarpur – Silchar (iii) Badarpur - Agartala (iv) Barsoi - Radhikapur (v) Katihar – Jogbani (vi) Alubari Road - Siliguri via Bagdogra (vii) New Jalpaiguri – Alipurduar - Samuktala via Hasimara (viii) New Bongaigaon – Kamakhya via Goalpara (ix) Rangia – Rangapara - Murkongselk etc have been sanctioned and preparation of estimates and tendering process have been started.
Already tenders for entire routes of all the area covered by N.F.Railway have been floated by the respective divisions for preparation of pegging plan, related drawings and estimates etc before floating of execution tender so that executing tenderers need not to make any drawing for approval before taking execution of works in the interest of speedy works.
