When you are boarding the train from a Station enroute, not mentioned in your Booking form, you have : either to risk loosing your right to berth/seat as TTE is at liberty to allot the unoccupied seat/berth , if you fail to appear at the time of Departure of Train from the Stn of Boarding....
If you have mentioned Station of Boarding, you can challenge TTE , but then TTE will not commit 'mistake' of allotting to others... as you are expected to arrive... But as you did not arrive on time and date and at station of departure... You Stand Chance to Loose your Claim.... If nothing happens, and you are lucky... Enjoy...

Dadar would be safe but Thane might put your seat into risk of being allotted to others as TTE normally start checking after DR

Officially, the TTE is allowed to allocate the seat / berth if it is found vacant due to non turning up of the passenger at the boarding point. However, based on my personal experience, TTE do not allocate the seats to other passengers up to Kalyan. Boarding a train at Thane should be fine.
