You are correct. In English it is Kanyakumari but in Hindi, it is कन्याकुमारी.

The reason is that the "1st matra" is already getting used in "Ku" so "ri" should have the "2nd matra".

The former pronounces the city as Chennaiye but the later pronounce it as Chennai.
