If it is e-ticket, never board the train. As WL e-ticket is automatically cancelled and refund credited to your bank acocunt.
The TTE may not help you out in case of e-ticket as you will be a ticketless passenger.
You may try out but it's highly unlikely to get a favour from TTE on such premium trains in view of many RAC passengers demanding berth positions.
