I think the Akola Khandwa gauge conversion project pendency is the created problem.
If Akola Khandwa gauge conversion project will complete then it'll be shortest connectivity for the South (East /West) and North (East/West ).
Due to pending work on this route most of the train diverted via Badnera (Amravati). Which is not natural.

GC for AII-COR-RTM-IND-KNW-AK-PAU was proposed in 1997 1st. Then The Rajput & Malwa REgions Royal Families staged demonstration against that decision. Otherwise by 2010 AII-PAU BG line would had been operational.
