This station having less originating terminating trains as well as passing trains also compare to Chennai central ndls and other Biggie station still 11 platforms as 8 is sufficient enough
The station may have less pass through trains due to nature of being an MG station but really busy from evening departures and morning arrivals. SR focus more originating trains from Egmore than Central and south bound trains and this section is one of the profitable sections of SR. EMUs plying via Egmore are the busiest in Chennai.
Already due to PF constraints SR starting trains from TBM and developed it as satellite terminal specifically to decongest Egmore.

8 isn't sufficient. Even with eleven platforms, it is difficult to handle trains during morning and evening hours. Pf 1-3 are short and dead end platforms, 10 and 11 are dedicated for EMUs. Only 6 PFS can handle 24 coacher trains. Added to it the location of GSN yard and with frequent shunting movements, it is difficult to handle trains during peak hours. If you look at the train timings, most departures are in the evening while most arrivals are in the morning. During the day the station remains largely free.
sorry bro I was really not aware about that emu Operation very high in egmore as well as other originating trains is have never been to Chennai but I will be visiting in May 2021 thanks for info which I was not aware
Not sufficient?! Pls. visit MS once and then you will change your stance. In fact MS needs more PFs. TBM to some extent has decongested MS.
Better then can try Chennai beach as terminal for 2-4 trains as it has many platforms and can handle also. If trains start from here it can pass through egmore also. North Chennai passengers can also utilize it . But PM can be given at Chennai or any other destination like trichy madurai tirunelveli etc.
