i ticket is a hard copy ticket and e ticket is a print of a ticket
waitlist passenger in e ticket r not allowed to board the train

i-ticket is process where you will be delivered the ticket through post and will be similar to the counter ticket. You need to book 2-3 days in advance depending on where you live. In e-ticket you can book upto the period of chart preparation. with an i-ticket in waitlist you can travel in unreserved coaches and not reserved coaches.
