No, they have different fare structure, different livery (earlier, when icf), different halt pattern than intercity. Intecities also have Unreserved coach, while JS have none. Ya new ones resemble it with respect to halt pattern, but old ones are ahead than intercities

Well, technically, they can introduce ICE trains with zero UR coaches. All I am saying is that I see Jan Shatabdi trains as a subset of InterCity trains and I won't be surprised if someday, they come under the ambit of normal Intercity trains as well.

When started they were termed as non AC version of Shatabdi trains with high average speed. Catering was mandatory, livery was distinct, priority in sections was top notch and fare was also a bit higher for both 2S and CC then current one.
But like the other breed named Duronto they were gradually degraded in all aspects,; recently launched JS were slower than counterparts, with same LHB livery coaches allotted; with the three slower rung Uttarakhand based JS' sinking the bar further.
