I had earlier posted vide entry no. 58472-3 that 2839/2840 Howrah-Chennai-Howrah Mails, then numbered as 3UP/4DN were the first long distance trains in India to be hauled by diesel locomotive introduced in 1965, if my memory serves me right. Wud like somebody to confirm or throw more light on this?
WDM 1 (First mainline diesel electric locomotives used in India. Introduced in 1957. Imported from ALCO. Out of service now. 1950 hp)
You are right, the HWH-MAS mail was the first to use the services of WDM1 apart from goods train.
But I am not sure about the year

Thanx for ur prompt reply. Introduction of diesel loco in Howrah-Chennai-Howrah Mails was definitely in either 1964 or 1965. Wud it be possible to confirm frm the IR archives?
I am unable to find the exact dates. Please visit www.irfca.org for more information
