SMS facility for PNR can be started while posting PNR when chart gets prepared. Blogger should get message regarding their PNR. In some places the distance is too long so that the passenger have to travel long and it consumes time. While on road/journey if he gets SMS it will be helpful for them where is their seats and coach. Hence passenger did not have to search on chart, if they have less time.

While booking e tickets, there is a provision for furnishing your mobile number. Wonder what purpose this seves at present and how IRCTC/IR make use of this information. In case of air tickets, I have received general msgs asking me to report at the airport for check in at least two hours prior to departure and also in one instance, an sms stating that the flight was delayed. However, that delay msg was not of much use as I was already more than half way to the airport.

Sir while booking when u provide mobile no. it msg. only the tkt status while booking and not sms again when it changes.
IRCTC sends an sms furnishing the details of travel(excluding berth number) and if the ticket is cancelled an sms is also send of the amount refunded
