i have seen 3 routes(personal experience)
where people choose bus than of trains
1.jbp-ngp route
2.mas-sbc roue(people goes through grandtrunck route)
3/mumbai-pune(people prefer express way)
where people choose bus than of trains

From Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar to west...
i.e., Gandhinagar/Ahmedabad to Dwarka
Ahmedabad to Somnath
Ahmedabad to Bhavnagar

But in few short routes also train are faster than bus...
For example: Ahmedabad to Vapi...

on mumbai-goa, trains are the first choice, as they usually take lesser time than bus. its only because trains in kr run perennially on WL that people are forced to go bus.
that's right, but traveling 20 hrs in ac bus between Mumbai and Bangalore is still better than traveling in general class compartment of udyan or chalukya.
