On this day, 36 years before the Southern Railway introduced Meter Gauge run VAIGAI Super Fast Express between Madurai and Chennai Egmore.
The first day inaugural run covers the distance in 7 hrs. 5 mins., the fastest run between Madurai & Chennai.

A new phenomena Has also ocurred this year , Many trains have been STRETCHED to new destinations with extremely uncomfortable timings ( Arriving & Departing around Midnight) from new originating STNS..
