why some trains are hauled by 2 locos on regular basis??(like karnataka exp, mumbai howrah mail via allahabad).only one(WDP4 or even WDM3A) is sufficient as the trains have avg speed of only 60 kmph or less, its waste of fuel an power.. any different views???

Trains having 24/26 coaches are hauled by 2 WDM2 Series locos.
It is also depends on the rake length. A WDP4 can haul 24 coacher than a WDM. Hence you see a 24 coacher like karnataka express with twin wdms.
but what about CSTM-KOP Koyna Exp? this train always have a much more powerful WDP4 or WDP4B Engines, the rake composition for this train is as follows
1- slr, 5- gen, 4- 2s, 1- cc, 1- dr, 1- kly, 1- lds/hc, no pantry.
Total 14 bogies so why it needs WDP4 engines?

It all depends on loco availability. Even 21 coachers like Udyan, 1013/1014 expresses are also hauled by WDP4S. Even you would see small passenger trains around YPR with WDP4s. WDP4 is the next line of locos to be manufactured exclusively for passenger trains. In future you would see many more trains with WDP4s.
