Rameswaram needs to be connected to all Metro & Major cities due to its importance of the holyness it has for doing the rites & rituals to the sole of every Hindus' ancestors of India like doing it in Varanasi & Gaya.Ever since the Independence, none of the railway ministers has shown any interest to upgrade the Rameswaram Station with more infrastructure by increasing the platforms, pit lines for maintenance & other basic ameneties for the pilgrims. For that, we can not blame Railways only.Ironically, the floating population is more than the actual residential population of Rameswaram due to day to day pilgrims visit & exit.In the last 4 decades, dravidian parties are only ruling Tamilnadu state. But,none of them has taken any initiative to give any kind of face lift to Rameswaram through changing the Danushkodi tsunami affected beach, temple, church areas as one of the tourist attraction places...
due to their not having any faith in hindu fundamental belief of doing rites to ancestors. At this juncture,if any other good goverance comes to power in the centre in next election only, we can expect something for making Rameswaram as a true pilgrim as well as heritage place.

Even though Rameswaram to Varanasi distance via MAS- VSKP-R-KTE is slightly for a few KMS(<50KMS)longer than the current trunk route via MAS-NGP-ET-KTE,instead of introducing new trains every time in the same conjusted trunk route, it is surely a good suggestion.By way of introducing new trains in new routes,it will benefit not only for the passengers in those areas, also yield revenue through freight movements in new areas to Railways by the traders. Some youth & bold enough RM with true service oriented & broad mind should be inducted into Railways portfolio to achieve this kind of new tasks.
