if HOG loco fail midway then they revert back to EOG technique... so rake is hog eog both capable but depends on loco..
and its well known that even on HOG loco , EOG are not detached
and recently on 3 sep train got wap5 as per video uploaded by blogger...

Not all rakes are capable of HOG and EOG. Only some rakes are being modified to be compatible and only these are being run with HOG locos. . So, it is reasonable to guess the a HOG P7 will be it's regular link in the near future, but you are right that it's probably premature to change the loco link now itself.
