Valapattanam River is the largest river in the Kannur district. Valapattanam (formerly known as Baliapttam ) river originates from the Brahmagiri Reserve Forest of mighty Western Ghats in Karnataka at an altitude of 900-1350m above mean sea level and drains into Arabian sea. On the banks of the river Valapattanam, is a giant of the modern timber industry - Western India Plywood Ltd., the largest wood-based industry in South East Asia. The picture shot from Valapattanam railway bridge almost 200 meters away from the station. The river quietly flowing towards Arabian sea.
View from the station and one can see the progress of on going electrification work.
