Traveled by Kerala express from NewDelhi to Trichur on March 19, 2014 by 2 ac. I would like to warn the passengers about the food service on this train. Even though there is a pantry car, they do not prepare food on train. They get food from outside ( worst quality food) and blame on the supplier for the poor quality. There are about a dozen irctc workers on this train killing time by playing cards. Only item they make on the train is tea/coffee. SO, PASSENGERS INTENDING TO TRAVEL ON THIS TRAIN MAY BRING THEIR OWN FOOD FOR THE HEALTHY ARRIVAL AT YOUR DESTINATION.
Please put a complaint about the same, In every PRS ticket, there is a complaint number regarding Catering Service. By complaining it may help you in future and other travelers too... If we raise few complaints, Some action will be taken.

The reason for doing this was that railways felt that food prepared in pantry cars were below quality hence decided that quality will improve if food is made in the base kitchens !! I am not too sure why it was done for kerala express for a train covering 2 nights and 2 days. It becomes extremely difficult if the train gets delayed since those who have ordered food have to literally wait for the station to arrive with no other option. Its high time that food is prepared in the pantry.This is the only long distance train in TVC division where food is loaded and not prepared in the pantry car.
