BOMB BLASTS IN BANGALORE – GUWAHATI EXPRESS
Two bombs exploded in Train No.12509 Bangalore – Guwahati tri-weekly express when the train was at Chennai Central station around 07.15 hrs. on 01.05.2014, Thursday.Three coaches – S 3, S 4 and S 5 – were affected due to the explosion.One passenger was killed, 2 passengers were seriously injured and 12 passengers received minor injuries due to the explosion.The injured have been admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai.

Security has been intensified at Chennai Central railway station and other trains are running as per schedule.


A helpline with the no. 044 – 2535 7398 is available to provide information to passengers.


An amount of Rs.50,000 has been announced as an immediate relief measure to the deceased.An amount of Rs.25,000 each has been announced as relief to the 2 seriously injured passengers and Rs.5,000 each has been announced as relief to the 12 passengers who suffered minor injuries.


A. Name of the deceased passenger:

Ms. Swaty –24 years Female


B. Names of the seriously injured passengers:

1. Unidentified male.
2. Sumantho Devnath – 37 yearsMale





C. Names of the passengers who received minor injuries:

1. Shaiful Haque – 27 years Male
2. Anjanedu– 29 years Male
3. Vimal Kumar Das – 43 years Male
4. Shagun Kumar Rai– 23 years Male
5. Altaf Khan – 17 years Male
6. Uma – 35 years Female
7. Jitendra Mohanto Deka – 58 years Male
8. Sari – 21 years Male
9. Murali – 27 years Male
10. Bijoy Kumar – 14 years Male
11. Sudanchand Debnath – 64 years Male
12. Surendra Varma– 31 years Male

The names mentioned above were received from the injured passengers in the hospital.Cross verification of the names with the railway reservation chart is being done.

A post-mortem examination has been performed upon Ms. Swaty and the injured are being treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai.
