In 1976, they created the KK (Karnataka-Kerala) Express that went from New Delhi to Trivandrum and Bangalore, with the train breaking into two at Jolarpettai. Later (1980), the Kerala Express started going from New Delhi to Trivandrum, and the Karnataka Express started going from New Delhi to Bangalore. Later, the Kerala Express divided in Palghat, with one part going to Mangalore. The Karnataka Express later changed to take the Gooty-Secunderabad-Nagpur route. Karnataka took three different routes on different days of the week: through Renigunta and Vijayawada; through Wadi and Secunderabad; and through Wadi and Manmad. The Kerala Express shared some of the same routes with the Jayanti Janata, which breaks off at Shoranur, with one part going to Cochin Harbour and the other going to Mangalore.
