Chennai Metro Rail test runs on the elevated corridor from Koyambedu rail yard to St.Thomas Mount. From June 14, test runs have been conducted from 1800 hrs till midnight.

It is "STANDARD GAUGE" [1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in)] or "International gauge", "UIC gauge", or "UIC track gauge.
The majority of under construction and future Metro Rail systems prefer Standard Gauge in India. It is only used for rapid transit systems: Delhi Metro (Phase 2), Bangalore Metro, Kolkata Metro (Line 2), Kolkata tram, etc.
