Exactly. Around 15 years back, Executive was the fastest train between Kannur & Ernakulam, as many passengers would wait for this train even from Shoranur, Thrissur, etc to reach Ernakulam very fast, as it was the fastest among many other trains in that route also. Now, it is the slowest train in this route. Now passenger trains run faster than executive, except on Kannur-Kozhikode-Kannur section. It takes around 6.5 hours with 22 stops in between. Sometimes, it takes around 7 to 8 hours, especially on Saturdays, as Shoranur Delay. As Rajdhani & Janshatabdi take around 5 hours and less, including many other trains like Amritsar, Madgaon, Dehradun, Sampark Kranti, etc and some trains take less than 4.5hours if they run without any unscheduled stops and little delay than scheduled. Kannur, as the train was little late to reach and leave from Kannur. Till 2013, Intecity was a fast express train. But, this train is now going in the same way of executive express with stops all over the route. When Intercity was introduced, it had just 6 stops between Ernakulam & Kannur, as it has now 15 stops, more than double(2.5 times) and competing with Executive Express in delay, time duration and number of stops. Executive express had just 10 stops in between in the beginning, as it has now jumped to 22. The same story is for Vanchinad Express also, as it had just Kottayam & Kollam stops in between Ernakulam & Trivandrum in 1985 as superfast express and now it had jumped to 17 stops and takes around 5 hours, as against 3.5 hours and less with 2 stops during the golden times. Express trains should be Express Trains, as the passengers are paying for that. Also, the public and the elected representatives shall think of it. Even Suprefast Mangala Express is taking 6 to 8 hours most of the days on CAN-ERS section in Nizamuddin-Ernakulam return trip, with heavy luggages to dump on each stations, even small local 1 minute stop stations. Now, even Rajdhani has now 17 stops and while it was introduced on KRCL, it had just 10 stops. Chennai Egmore-Mangalore express, Island Express, Jayanti Janata Express, Malabar Express, Ernad Express, etc are now super class super-slow Passenger Trains. For Ernad express, many stops are really amazing as the people staying around those stations don't understand why the stop is there. For Trivandrum-Kannur Janshatabdi, many stops are waste and this train consumes more than 1 hour more by wasting time. Arrival at Kannur before 11PM is possible for this train. On CAN-TVC route also, atleast 40 minutes can be saved if the timing is re-scheduled and loco change at Shoranur is cancelled. Even Janshatadi has many unwanted stops, then normal intercity express is not exempted.
