Just observed on Google maps, the line from JAT to SVDK via UHP is around 80 km whereas the road route via Nagrota is 50 km, Railways never bothered to take the shorter route and instead connected it to UHP to lengthen it..Ideally the line should have been constructed via Nagrota and the terrain is not at all unsuitable. What a waste of time...people taking a horseshoe curve from JAT to SVDK and first negotiating the gradient from JAT to UHP and then the gradient further to SVDK.
I know many of you would not bother to comment on this coz ab line bichh chuki hai..but just a thought from my side.

I have travelled quite a bit to Vaishno Devi and I am sure most of us in our life would have been there atleast once, have you seen the road route challenging at all from Jammu to Katra?
So its not just about observing the Google map thing sir, I feel IR never wanted to duplicate the task of JAT-SVKD and UHP-SVKD and hence consolidated it as JAT-UHP-SVKD and like I just mentioned now, Army presence in Nagrota could have been a roadblock too.
