HAPPY B'DAY MEWAR EXP
on August 20, 2005. The First Broad
gauge Superfast Train of the
princely state of Mewar was
flagged off, connecting Udaipur
City
...
to the Capital of India, by the
then Railway Minister L P Yadav.
Being the first, it was the biggest
sufferer of the regional politics.
Initially it was believed that this
train would take off from Udaipur
City & land at Chittaurgarh(a
distance of 120km approx.) with
no intermediate halts and same
between Chittaurgarh & Kota
(180km approx.). But this belief
fell on face when it was
announced that Chanderia, which
is a secondary station at
Chittaurgarh, meant generally for
goods & passengers (NOT
Express), would be the
commercial halt for Mewar
SUPERFAST Express. However, COR
would be a 20min technical halt
for rake reversal. This led to a lot
of Criticism. So before inaugural,
COR was added to the list of
commercial stops and CNA was as
it is by default(mere 7kms from
COR). Also on the day of
Inauguration local leaders from
Kapasan & Mavli announced
protests to demand halts of the
train at these two stations too.
Finally, RPZ, MVJ & KIN were added
to the halts on the first run. This
did not end here.
For some time, the train went non
stop from CNA to KOTA, and also
had no halts at SMBJ, HAN, BXN,
BVH on KOTA-NZM section. But
gradually all these mentioned
stations were added to its list in
the name of experimental halts.
Also MLGH and BUDI were added
to its halts later. All these halts
have now become permanent and
have continuously lowered the
name of Mewar Express.
The train cut down the journey
time from Udaipur City to Delhi
from 19+ hours as taken by meter
gauge Chetak Express to 12 hours
approx. with an average speed of
60kmph.
The max speed is 100kmph in
UDZ-KOTA route & 110kmph in
KOTA-NZM.
It was launched with an ABR
WDM-3A and got WDM-3A's from
various sheds after, which was
later fixed to ABR WDM-3A from
UDZ to KOTA & BRC WAP-4 from
KOTA to NZM.
From 2013 onwards it is getting
BGKT WDP-4/4B/4D from UDZ-
KOTA & TKD WAP-7 from KOTA-
NZM.
This video was captured near
Chanderia in Chittaurgarh
(Rajasthan) on August 9,2014
when the train was around 6
hours late due to excessive rains
damaged the KOTA-COR route the
earlier day.
Today the train suffers from a
total of 16 intermediate halts
excluding source & destination in
mere 744 kms and still maintains
its average speed. It is the best
train to travel from Delhi to
Udaipur City with no competition
from UDZ to KOTA. But it is also
one of the fastest NON Rajdhani,
Shatabdi trains between KOTA &
NZM and competes with Kota Jan
Shatabdi, Paschim Express, Golden
Temple Mail, Swaraj Express etc.
and the journey continues................
