Ok... nice info by you... and I think that Dum Dum Junction is the point where the tracks from Kolkata Terminal join the Sealdah - Dankuni Tracks... am I right ? :-)
DUM DUM is a mix of many. I have attached a pic for better understanding.

As per the map, it seems that my train 12357 Durgiana Exp must have gone from Chitpur Terminal to Dankuni Jn in a very round about way... this section is extremely slow and my train had to stop for 2 times in every 10 mins [Near Patipukur and Dum Dum]... it only speeded up from Rajchandrapur onwards and maintained a rockstar performance up to Mughalsarai on Day 1 ;-)
Yes, its true.... The trains from KOAA runs very slow till crossing Dum Dum Jn at least.
Just after departing from KOAA... the trains go through a huge curve so runs very slow. After that in Dum Dum it has to change many tracks (disturbing many local trains)...
