My mother a senior citizen left for Guwahati along with my sister, her husband and two minor children on October 13, 2009 on an emergency basis. We had requested a friend from Guwahati to book their return train tickets from Guwahati to Howrah Station for October 17. He booked E-tickets but my family only came to know that the tickets were booked through e-ticket after they reached Guwahati. None of them carried any identity proof due to the emergency in the family. Can I fax or scan their ID proofs and send it by email to my contact in Guwahati immediately and will that be valid document if they are asked to produce an ID? Their train from Guwahati leaves tonight.

generally, out of metropolitan/major towns, i have noticed that they generally use a thermal fax (cheap costs) which has to be photocopied again. In this case as you say, its an extremely adverse action. it may work in a laser quality printer or a good inkjet printer, but still the hologram will be a problem.
As mr jain says, these are not legal solutions and has to be acted on their own risks.
Will a gazetted officer signature attestation on photocopy do the work?
