Cancellation is not allowed in premium trains as they are mainly meant for emergency travel and make up for increased traffic at special occasions. However, what about situations that prevent travel beyond the control of the commuter?
Recently, I had to face a situation of the death of a immediate family member preventing travel by premium train - however, I could not cancel ticket as it was not allowed and neither could I travel. I had booked 4 seats which meant that those seats would be blocked without any benefit to any passenger and also I would not get any refund.

They do allow RAC and I am talking of cancellation before train departure and chart preparation and not after as possible in online booking. Looking at the demand of premium trains, IR may earn more as the fare of ticket may have considerable gone up when you are cancelling.
