Salem is a Divisional HQ in SR. But hardly any train originates from Salem to different places. Salem is one important town in TN and traffic intersection. To understand, one should go to Salem Bus stand. You can find hundreds of people waiting for buses towards Bengaluru, Erode/ Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Chennai, Kerala towns, etc. round the clock. But it is disappointing to note that only one exp train (that too at mercy of CR) and few passenger trains. Youngest division in SR and so, all big brothers are ruling over Salem.
I suggest following routes/ trains to originate from Salem:
1.
...
SA - TNM ICE via KPD. Can cover the distance in 5 to 5-1/2 hours. Will link Salem, Morappur, Tirupattur, Ambur, Vaniyambadi to Thiruvannamalai. There were moves to link TNM with MAS, TPJ, etc, but no one thought of SA or CBE.
2. SA - MV: Two ICE trains can run daily between SA-MV. One via VRI, CUPJ, CDM (Distance: 272 Kms) and another one via NMKL, TPJ, TJ, KMU (Distance: 282 Kms). Will link Cauvery delta area to Salem. Will be a super hit. At present, only one train passes through in each route at odd hours.
3. SA - RMM: Two ONT trains can run on alternate days. One via NMKL, KRR,TPJ,PDKT (Dist: 428 Kms) and other via NMKL, KRR, MDU,MNM (Dist: 383 Kms). Will connect pilgrimage towns to Salem. In fact, I would like to start this train from SBC, but SR and SWR together will mess up the TT. Hence, from ONT from SA will be sufficient.
4. SA-TN/TCN/TSI: Twice a week to Tutucorin, Thiruchendur and Tenkasi, allvia NMKL, KRR, MDU. Will provide south to west TN connectivity. One can think of linking TSI train upto QLN, once GC is over.
5. SA-SMET: Thrice a week train ONT from Salem to Shivamogga in Karnataka. To avoid entering into SBC/ YPR and loco reversal, train can go via BWT, BAND, KJM, YPR Bypass, TK,ASK. From Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Birur, Tarikere area, many people travel to SA and CBE. Also, will link SA and Bangarapet with interior Karnataka.
6. SA - GUV ICE : Salem to Guruvayur ICE to cater to west TN and central KL. Famous temple town Guruvayur needs link to other cities in TN/ KL.
My intention is to explore linkages from SA to other places. Pl do not ask regular questions like why not from XXX or YYY.
For expert RF opinion please. Consolidated opinion can be presented to SA authorities by concerned.

the fact is it is not a waste train for MYS and abt maintenance its a duty of end station and we use cleaned rakes atleast for one side journey if not both
making a issue out of basava from MYS shows who is encouraging regional stuffs which depicts ones mind set

yes basava is meant for this region plp traveling till SUR from MYS/MYA/RMGM and not behind that
and i also appreciate the extension of basava from SUR-BGK even though it is not a preferable route to travel between MYS/SBC to BGK/BJP using idle rake to give more connections to plp is a good inventive then idling them in xyz yard
"All want trains to Bangalore not beyond it as traffic is more towards Bangalore..."
then
...
why are you worrying abt this extension what interest does it serve for you when it is not affecting you and your top traveling sections :)

Lol get well soon sir, looks like you are and data proves something else... many travel behind you mentioned stations... Anyways Basava should be terminated at Gulbarga and Bangalore itself else its loss of diesel for Indian railways... And reason for worry is inspite of heavy traffic between SBC and GR, still the quota allocated is very less and for tatkal there is no single seat allocated for GR. All book tickets from Hotgi and change boarding similarly while up train many book from Mandya till GR and change boarding to SBC.... Why should anyone pay more for unscientific extension of SBC trains which gets maintained(cleaned) at MYS....
