A prepaid autorickshaw counter at the Mangaluru Junction (Kankanady) Railway Station, a demand pending for several years, seems to be a reality shortly with almost all hurdles for the counter being cleared.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, A.B. Ibrahim told a delegation of Pashchima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivriddhi Samithi, which met him on Monday that the issue of service charge to the counter operator has now been resolved. Mangalore Junction is located off the highway, one has to depend either on own or hired vehicles to travel between the city and the station. The station witnesses heavy footfalls. Though the process began about two-and-a-half years ago, the station recently got a kiosk to operate the counter. In the absence of bus service, autorickshaw operators charged hefty fares from commuters, ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 200 depending upon the distance.
